The site’s neighborhood is a famous square in terms of the history of legislation in Iran, from forming the first parliament until now. In the transition from different kingdoms and long history of monarchies in Iran to the modern governments, many efforts have been made to establish a center of legislation by people’s elected delegates. This design proposal suggests an informative center to exhibit this transformation and people’s struggle for democracy and its background. This exhibition illustrations political reforms and legislative transformation of the country in the last century.

Main Ideas and design process:

Three different buildings were designated in design to show three important parliaments in the history of Iran. Since it was an old garden that should be saved, the garden influenced other parts of the landscape and buildings. With respect to the existing trees in the plot, axes were formed, and detached parts of the main buildings were shifted to the boundaries to form main gates for each side of the site.

In order to create functional spaces, the program was articulated into simple volumes with a clear circulation amongst them. Places for exhibiting objects and pieces were arranged three-dimensionally to simplify their functional interrelationship. Buildings arrangement is not dense; instead, it offers a porous composition.

As a symbol of Iranian architecture patterns, stained-glass windows were utilized in the design of window openings. Zigzag-shaped walls also soften the indirect lighting required in galleries.
