The reflection of Kerman architecture as a historic architecture was the main requirement for the design proposal of Kerman University Gate (Medical Science Faculty). One of the most remarkable attributes of this city’s architecture is its Muqarnas used as a module for suspended ceilings for more than 1000 years. Muqarnas is a form of ornamented vaulting in Islamic architecture. It has structural, thermal, and acoustic functions and aesthetic performance as a gradual transition from vertical to horizontal elements.
The medical science of this university also was supposed to be demonstrated by a futuristic element. On the one hand, the allusion to Muqarnas and clear-cut finishing of an up-to-date product on the other hand directed the foremost choice of folded plate structures displaying the modernized form of Muqarnas.
